In Time Chapter One
prologue:
"Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. Time has long been an important subject of study in religion, philosophy, and science, but defining it in a manner applicable to all fields without circularity has consistently eluded scholars."
"Time is something that we experience on a daily basis; characterized by notion such as the past, present, and the future. Its progression is embodied in our continued experience of the future becoming the present, while the present becomes the past."
Chapter 1
In Time You'll Learn
"Mowe! Get up and get ready for school now!" mother shouted up the stairs...again. I smirked to myself as I turned over and faced my bedroom window. "yea, yea," I mumbled out loud. I don't know why she was so stressed about it. I can get dressed and and be at school in a matter of seconds. hell, I can do anything. Hearing mother shuffling up the stairs, I got out of bed. I brushed my teeth washed my face. staring in my mirror at my face always brought about the same question I asked myself everyday. Do I look like him? Was he like me? What was his dad like? Why did he leave me? I got dressed gathered my materials and put on my shoes before she reached the top landing. As she was turning the doorknob to my bedroom door I noticed my room was still a mess from last nights, mishap for lack of a better term and that I should fix that before mother came in. Thinking back I felt what only could be deemed as remorse but I cant be totally sure. I was trying out new incantations I'd learned and of course mother picks that as the perfect time to want to talk. "Mowe, the school called me today. Is there anything you want to talk to me about?" I shook my head no and continued to recite. Mother didn't take the hint and started blabbing away. "Sweetheart, I don't know what's been going on with you lately, but it seems as though your misbehavior is getting worse at school. You know you can talk to me about anything, right?" I nodded and tried to maintain my focus. I didn't want to overshoot time and she was making it hard to concentrate. I took a deep breath and held his image in my minds eye. I could feel myself stretching, reaching. it was like he was right in front of me, close enough to touch. I reached my hand out to grab ahold of his hand when she grabbed my hand instead and what I heard and felt was like millions of pieces of glass shattering all around us. Then a split second later, he was gone. Again. I felt coldness creep into body starting at my feet. I knew what was happening, I should have been afraid, knew I should have stopped, but I couldn't. I wouldn't. I turned on around and faced my mother at lightening speed. I yanked my hand away from her with such force I dislocated her shoulder. "What is your problem! Do you see what you did!" I threw my hands up and she hit hit the ceiling with a sickening crack. She howled in pain and I noticed her leg at an odd angle. "Mom! Mom I'm so sorry. I lost control. Please don't be mad at me." She was sobbing and shaking and in so much pain she couldn't move. I placed my forehead to hers and mumbled the cant that would heal her. After a few minutes of feverishly apologizing and rocking her back and forth on the floor she stopped crying and looked at me with so much fear and love in her eyes. " I love you Mowe and I only want you to be happy." She stood up and walked out. I could hear her crying as she walked into her room. I blinked and my room was spotless. mother came in and gave me a strained smile. Instantly, guilt settled heavy on my heart but I forced a smile anyway. "Good morning mother. What breakfast for the champions have you made for me today?" She took a timid step towards me and cautiously asked me, "How was your morning?"
"Certainly better than last night mother. I'm sorry about that. It was not my intentions to hurt you and I promise to do better." I responded.
"Mowe, we have discussed this already. I do not want you dealing in TATS. It's too dangerous and morally wrong," she pleaded.
"Mother calm down. I can handle it. I'm stronger than every first year in school and yet you would have me to pretend like I'm weak. That's not fair to ask of me. If you would just let me show you-"
"No, Mowe! Your father thought the same thing and now he's gone! Gone! Do you understand that!" she yelled.
"Yea i know! And whose fault is it that he's gone and never coming back! I will not pay for your bad decisions!" I yelled back and ran down the stairs.
"Please, Mowe don't take the shortcut to school. " mother pleaded with me. I stopped and turned around and looked at her. In that exact moment all I could feel for my mother was pity and hatred. "No problem mom," I hissed." " I'll walk like all the other normal kids in this town." I turned around on my heels and walked toward the school. I barely heard her small voice say "I love you" nor did I notice the shadow standing behind her.
